Routine Monitoring & Evaluation for RMC

In the fall of 2017, the HEARD Project led a rapid review of respectful maternal care (RMC) indicators to determine which are best suited for routine monitoring and evaluation of RMC.  This work was led by researchers from the University of California San Francisco, guided by the HEARD Project and in partnership with the Tanzania Ministry of Health.   They used a rapid review approach, which included (1) reviewing existing documents and publications to extract RMC indicators and identify which have or can be used in facility-based quality improvement initiatives, community score cards, and performance-based financing schemes; (2) surveying RMC and maternal health experts to rank indicators, and (3) analyzing survey data to select the most recommended indicators.

The findings were published in the March 2020 edition of Global Health: Science and Practice journal. View the article here.
